What you can actually see and control
"Parental controls" is a marketing phrase that hides a real gap: some phones let you read every message your kid sends, others only alert you when their AI thinks something looks wrong. That difference matters more than almost any other spec on this list, so here it is on its own, pulled straight from the same device database behind every other page on this site.

Two distinctions worth reading twice: "flags risky texts" is not the same as "parent can read texts." Bark's core product scans content and sends alerts — it doesn't hand you a full transcript by default the way MMGuardian and Troomi do. And "browser: configurable" (Bark, MMGuardian) means the default is often locked down but a parent has to actively enable and configure it, not that it arrives open.
